Solution
(a) Nicotine and benzopyrin are the injurious and toxic substances present in cigarette smoke.
(b)The capacity of blood to receive oxygen is reduced in people who have this habit because-
Hemoglobin has greater affinity for carbon monoxide than oxygen. Hence it combines with carbon monoxide and forms a stable compound called carboxyhemoglobin. This carboxyhemoglobin dissociates very slowly and reduces the capacity of blood to carry or receive oxygen.
