Sodium carbonate can be tested on: (i.e. shows any observable changes)
Write the balanced chemical equations for the following reactions- (a) Sodium carbonate on reaction with hydrochloric acid in equal molar concentration gives sodium chloride and sodium hydrogen carbonate. (b) Sodium hydrogen carbonate on reaction with hydrochloric acid gives sodium chloride, water and liberates carbon dioxide. (c) Copper sulphate on treatment with potassium iodide precipitates cuprous iodide (Cu2I2), liberates iodine gas and also forms potassium sulphate.
A dilute solution of sodium carbonate was added to two test tubes – one containing dil HCl (A) and the other containing dilute NaOH (B). What will be observations?
