Solving Simultaneous Linear Equation Using Cramer's Rule

Solve $2 x + y = 18$ and $x - 3 y = - 33$

Solution

$2 x + y = 18$ ......... (1)
$x - 3 y = - 33$ ............. (2)
From (1), we have $y = 18 - 2 x$ . Putting this in (2), we have
$x - 3 (18 - 2 x) = - 33$
$x - 54 + 6 x = - 33$
$7 x = 54 - 33 = 21$
$x = \frac{21}{7} = 3$
$y = 18 - 2 \times 3$
$= 18 - 6$
$= 12$
