A agrees to pay B Rs. 1,00,000 if a. certain ship returns within a year. State the legal position in each of the following alternative cases
Case (a) If the ship returns within the year.
Case (b) If the ship returns after the expiry of 1 year.
Case (c) If the ship is burnt within the year.

Reason: The contract can be enforced by law when the event has happened (i.e., return of ship).
Case (b)
Decision: B cannot recover anything from A.
Reason: The contract becomes void on the expiry of the fixed time if the event does not happen.
Case (c)
Decision: B cannot recover anything from A.
Reason: The contract becomes void when such event becomes impossible.
