Solve:

(a) Write a linear equation in two variables to represent the following information: The perimeter of a rectangle is 80.

(b) Find the point where 3x + 2y = 8 intersects the Y axis. [3 MARKS]

Sub-part (b) : 2 Marks

(a) Let the length of the rectangle be x and let its breadth be y

Then the perimeter will be equal to 2x + 2y (perimeter of rectangle = 2(l+b))

Since the perimeter is given as 80, we can say that 2x + 2y = 80

Simplifying,

x + y = 40

(b) Put x = 0 in the equation 3x + 2y = 8

The equation reduces to 2y = 8

y = 4

Hence, the required point is (0, 4)
