$\frac{1}{2} x + 7 x - 6 = 7 x + \frac{1}{4}$
$\Rightarrow \frac{1}{2} x + 7 x - 7 x = \frac{1}{4} + 6$ (By transposition)
$\Rightarrow \frac{1}{2} x = 6 \frac{1}{4} = \frac{25}{4} ∴ x = \frac{25}{4} \times \frac{2}{1} = \frac{25}{2}$
Verification:
$L . H . S . = \frac{1}{2} x + 7 x - 6 = \frac{1}{2} \times \frac{25}{2} + 7 \times \frac{25}{2} - 6 = \frac{25}{4} + \frac{175}{2} - 6 = \frac{25 + 350 - 24}{4} = \frac{375 - 24}{4} = \frac{351}{4} R . H . S . = 7 x + \frac{1}{4} = 7 \times \frac{25}{2} + \frac{1}{4} = \frac{175}{2} + \frac{1}{4} = \frac{350 + 1}{4} = \frac{351}{4} ∴ L . H . S . = R . H . S .$
