LCM of $8, 5, 4$ is $40$
Multiply by $40$ on both sides.
$\Rightarrow 5 (5 y - 4) - 8 (y - 3) = 10 (y + 6) \Rightarrow 25 y - 20 - 8 y + 24 = 10 y + 60 \Rightarrow 7 y = 56$
$\Rightarrow y = \frac{56}{7} = 8$
Hence, the value of $y$ is $8$ .
