The side on the left of this equal sign $(=)$ is called the left hand side (or L.H.S.) and the one on the right is called the right hand side (or R.H.S.)

so, here L.H.S $=$$2\mathrm{x}$ and R.H.S $=8$

Now try $\mathrm{x}=1,2,3,4...$

When, $\mathrm{x}=1$ L.H.S $=2\times 1=2\ne$R.H.S

When, $\mathrm{x}=2$ L.H.S $=2\times 2=4\ne$R.H.S

When, $\mathrm{x}=3$ L.H.S $=2\times 3=6\ne$R.H.S

When, $\mathrm{x}=4$ L.H.S $=2\times 4=8=$R.H.S

Hence, $\mathrm{x}=4$ is the solution.
