Question

Solve the following pair of linear equations by the elimination method

3x-5y-4=09x=2y+7

Open in App
Solution

Step 1: Find the value of one variable by modifying equations and subtracting them.

Given pair of equations are:

3x-5y-4=03x-5y=4.....(1)9x=2y+79x-2y=7.......(2)

Multiply equation (1) by 3, we get

9x-15y=12......(3)

Subtracting equation (2) from equation (3), we get,

9x-15y-9x+2y=12-7-13y=5y=-513

Step 2: Find the value of x.

Put the value of y in equation (1), we get

3x-5(-513)=43x+2513=43x=4-25133x=52-2513x=2713×3x=913

Hence, x=913 and y=-513 are the solutions of given pair of linear equation.
