Given equations are,

$3 x - y = 8 \dots \dots (i)$

$5 x + y = 0 \dots \dots (i i)$

Consider,

$5 x + y = 0$

$\Rightarrow y = - 5 x$

Substituting for $y$ in $(i)$ , we get

$3 x - (- 5 x) = 8$

$8 x = 8$

$\Rightarrow x = 1$

$∴ x = 1, y = - 5$
