X makes a promise to his wife V to give her pocket money of Rs. 1,000 per month. After 6 months, he stops making the payment. Can Y claim damages from X.

It is a general principle that agreements which are enforceable by law are contracts. 'Enforceable by law' here means that parties to the contract will have remedies in the court of law in case of any breach. But in the given case, X promised his wife Y to giver her pocket money every month which makes it a sort of social agreement and hence is not enforceable by law. Therefore, Y cannot sue X for the damages.
