on solving equation $\left(ii\right)$, we get

$y=4-x$

By substitution method, putting the value of $y$ in equation $\left(i\right)$, we get

$x-(4-x)=14$

$\Rightarrow x-4+x=14$

$\Rightarrow 2x=14+4$

$\Rightarrow x=\frac{18}{2}$

$\therefore x=9$

and, $y=4-9=-5$

so, $x=9,y=-5$
