Somatic cell therapy: Skin cells:: Germ line therapy: _______
In germ line gene therapy DNA is transferred into the germ cells which tend to produce reproductive cells, eggs or sperm, in the body. This therapy allows for the correction of disease causing gene variants that can be passed from one generation to another.
Somatic cell gene therapy is defined as the process of introducing a genetic material in the form of RNA inside the appropriate cell (Bone marrow, blood cells and lymphocytes) in such a manner that it controls the cell’s mechanism of gene expression so that it can produce the required therapeutic effect.
