Sonia went to a bank with $Rs.2,000,00$. She asked the cashier to give her $Rs.500$ and $Rs.2000$ currency notes in return. She got $250$ currency notes in total. Find the number of each kind of currency note.

Let the number of $Rs.500$ notes be $x$.
Since the total no. of currency notes is $250$, and
no. of $Rs.2000$ notes is $250-x$
According to the problem, $500x+2000(250-x)=200000$

or, $500x+500000-2000x=200000$

or, $2000x-500x=500000-200000$

or, $1500x=300000$ or,
$x=\frac{300000}{1500}$

or, $x=200$
Therefore, $250-x=250-200=50$
Thus, Sonia got $200$, $Rs.500$ notes and $50$ of $Rs.2000$ notes from the bank.
