Question

Both colloids and suspensions are heterogeneous mixtures, then why are colloids more stable than suspensions?

Open in App
Solution

Dear StudentIn a colloid, the colloidal particles carry same charge, either positive or negative charge. This causes the same charged colloidal particles repel each other. It prevents them from coming closer to each other to form larger particles. This stops the coagulation of colloidal solution and hence provides stability to colloidal solution. While particles of suspensions are larger than colloidal particles.Hence, colloids are more stable than suspensions.Regards
