How light influence the growth and development in plants ?

Dear Student,

Light is very important for the growth and development of plant because it induces flowering and seed germination. It is also required for the photosynthesis to generate food. Plants have the tendency to grow towards light, this phenomenon is called phototropism. It occurs in plants due to the presence of plant hormone auxin which is highly light sensitive. Thus, it is also responsible for the movement of hormones. Thus, light directly influences the growth and development of plants. Low amount of light can decrease the rate of photosynthesis, thereby, decreases the growth of the plant.
