Seminiferous tubules are functional unit of testes where spermatogenesis takes place. The seminiferous tubules are horse-shoe shaped tubules and opens into testis. There are about 600 seminiferous tubules. Each tubules is lined by an epithelium called seminiferous epithelium. It is a complex epithelium consisting of two types of cells as sustentacular cells of Sertoli and spermatogenic cells. Sertoli cells are supportive cells (provide nutrition to the developing sperms) while spermatogenic cells are germ cells.
Interstitial cells lie between the seminiferous tubules and produces testosterone.
