The Human Genome Project (HGP) is an international research program that is to spell out the complete genetic inheritance of human beings and selected experimental animals. The HGP's goal is to decode the complete DNA inheritance, or genome of human beings by 2003 and make them accessible for further biological study. The Department of Energy's Human Genome Program and the National Institutes of Health's National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) together sponsored the U.S Human Genome Project.
Objectives or goals of Human Genome Project (HGP) are:
(i) To develop new and improved medicines.
(ii) To predict and prevent diseases.
(iii) To ensure that the diagnosis is accurate.
(iv) To improve forensic science.
