Salient features of the human genome as drawn from the human genome project are

1. Human genome consists of 3164.7 million nucleotides.

2. The average gene consists of 3000 bases. But the size of each gene vary greatly.

3. Approximately 30,000 genes are present in human genome.

4. The functions of over 50 per cent of the discovered genes are unknown.

5. Less than 2 per cent of the genome codes for proteins.

6. A large part of the human genome is made up of repeated sequences. Repetitive sequences are stretches of DNA sequences that are repeated many times.
