State one reason why is mechanical advantage less than the velocity ratio for an actual machine.
The mechanical advantage(M.A) of a real machine is always less than its velocity ratio(V.R) because mechanical advantage decreases due to the friction and weight of moving parts of the machine whereas the velocity ratio remains constant.
If the mechanical advantage had been equal to the velocity ratio of the machine, the efficiency would have been 100%, which is impossible in reality. Thus the ratio between mechanical adv. and velocity ratio is always less than 1, which again implies that M.A. should always be less than V.R.
