Aqua regia is derived from the Latin word royal water and it is a strong acid. It is a mixture of nitric and hydrochloric acid in a ratio 1:3. Aqua regia is a yellow-orange fuming liquid, it can dissolve the noble metals like gold and platinum. Hydrochloric acid acts as an oxidizing agent.
