Rig-Vedic period:
  • Rig-Veda was compiled and lasted between 1500 BCE to 1000 BCE.
  • Animal husbandry was the major occupation.
  • The aryans during this period used to live near the Sindhu river.
  • Agni and lord Indra were the two major deities during this period.
  • There was no concept of reincarnation during this period.
Post Rig-Vedic period:
  • Sama-Veda, Yajur-Veda and Atharva Veda were compiled during this period and it lasted between 1000 BCE and 700 BCE.
  • Agriculture became the primary occupation during this period.
  • The Aryans shifted from the Sindhu river to central part of India near Ganga river.
  • Beside the existing deities lord Rudra and lord Vishnu also became prominent.
  • Concept of ‘Karma’ and ‘rebirth of soul’ were introduced in the Upanishads during this period.
