State the function of saliva.

Saliva is secreted into the oral cavity by the salivary glands. It contains many electrolytes, amylase enzyme, and immunoglobulins. It has following functions:
  1. Chemical digestion of the starch in food through the action of amylase enzyme.
  2. Moistening the food for easy swallowing.
  3. Allows the tongue to taste the food by dissolving the food.
