ß-cells (Islets of Langerhans):

ß-cells comprise about 60% of each islet of Langerhan that is found in the pancreas.

Functions:

  1. It produces and secretes a peptide hormone called insulin.
  2. Insulin hormone plays an important role in regulating blood glucose levels.
  3. ß-cells secretes Insulin in response to an increase in the intracellular Ca2+ concentration.
