State the law of conservation of mass. Why do we need to balance a chemical equation?

Law of conseravtion of mass can be stated as, "Mass can neither be created nor be destroyed in a chemical reaction".
The total mass of the reactants is equal to the total mass of the products. Hence, the reaction needs to be balance so that the total mass of the reactants calculated is equal to the total mass of the products.
