Beta cells of pancreas

Pancreas:

  1. The pancreas is a mixed gland.
  2. It has exocrine and endocrine regions.
  3. The exocrine part has acinar cells from where digestive enzymes are secreted.
  4. The endocrine part consists of many islets known as islets of Langerhans.
  5. Islets of Langerhans have four different types of cells - α-cells,β-cells,δ-cells and pp- cells.
  6. α-cells- secrete - glucagon hormones, β-cells- secretes insulin hormone, δ-cells secrete- somatostatin hormone, and pp- cells secrete pancreatic polypeptide.

The function of beta cells:

  1. Beta cells secrete insulin hormones.
  2. This hormone controls the blood sugar level.
