The thyroid gland:

  1. It is the largest endocrine gland in the body.
  2. It produces and stores hormones that aid in heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature regulation.

Origin:

It's endodermal, meaning it arises from the embryo's endoderm.

Location:

  1. It is made up of two lobes that surround the front of the larynx.
  2. Each of its lobes is positioned on either side of the trachea in the neck and is interconnected to each other by an isthmus, a thin flap of connective tissue.
