State the principle involved in separation of solid-liquid mixtures by: filtration.

Principle of filtration:

  1. The process of separating insoluble solids by passing the mixture through the filter is called filtration.
  2. The solid left on the paper is called residue and the liquid that passes through the filter paper is called filtrate.
  3. For example : separating tea leaves from the tea, mixture of sand and water etc.
