State the principle involved in the separation of solid-solid mixtures by: magnetic separation.

Magnetic separation:

  1. if one of the components present in a mixture of two or more solids is magnetic, then a magnet can be used to separate the components.
  2. magnet is moved in the mixture, the magnetic components gets attracted by the magnet.
  3. For example: to separate a mixture of iron fillings and sulphur.
