Oxidation is the addition of oxygen or removal of hydrogen from a reactant. (0.5 marks)

An oxidising agent causes oxidation of the other reactant by itself getting reduced. (0.5 marks)

For example: Copper oxide reacts with hydrogen to form copper and water. In this reaction, copper oxide is getting reduced to copper, so it is an oxidising agent. It oxidises hydrogen to water. (1 mark)
