State the valency of hydroxide ion.

The hydroxide ion is OH, a compound made up of hydrogen and oxygen. Oxygen is a more electronegative atom as compared to hydrogen, thus the oxygen atom has a charge of -2 whereas the hydrogen atom has a charge of +1.
Thus ,OH has an overall charge of -1.
