State two ways in which you can separate a mixture of sand and sugar.

Open in App
Solution

Two ways in which a mixture of sand and sugar can be separated are:

(a) Sieving: If a mixture of sugar and sand is made to pass through a sieve, the sand particles will pass through the sieve leaving behind sugar in the sieve.

(b) Dissolution followed by filtration followed by evaporation: To separate the mixture of sand and sugar, add water to this mixture and filter it. Sand will be left behind as the residue and we will get sugar and water as the filtrate. Sugar and water can then be easily separated by evaporating the water, which will leave behind the sugar.
