When the tennis ball and the iron ball are thrown with the same velocity, the iron ball will have more momentum as it has more mass.
We know that, Force=Rate of change of momentum
When the balls are caught there momentum will be zero.
Since the iron ball has more momentum, it will exert more force on the hands-on catching. So, it is difficult to catch the iron ball.
