State which of the two — a solution of HCl in water or in toluene is an electrolyte. Explain.

A solution of HCl in water is an electrolyte because HCl dissociates in water and form ions and these ions conduct electricity on the other hand toluene is insoluble in water and hence doesn't produce ions for conduction of electricity.
