Question

State your observation, when excess sodium hydroxide is added to calcium nitrate solution.

Open in App
Solution

  • When excess sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is added to the calcium nitrate [Ca(NO3)2] solution, calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] and sodium nitrate (NaNO3) is produced.
  • A white precipitate of calcium hydroxide is formed.

Chemical equation:

Ca(NO3)2(aq)Calciumnitrate+2NaOH(s)SodiumhydroxideCa(OH)2(aq)Calciumhydroxide+2NaNO3(aq)Sodiumnitrate

Hence, when excess sodium hydroxide is added to the calcium nitrate solution, a white precipitate of calcium hydroxide is formed.
