The British established themselves firmly on the Indian soil in the eighteenth century. The last successful Moghul emperor Aurangzeb died in 1707 CE, and his successors were weak. Thus, the later Moghuls lost their control over South India. The death of the king of Mysore, Chikkadevaraya in 1704 CE resulted in succession problems and administrative issues. Eventually, this led to the popularity of Hyder Ali and provided a fertile ground for the British to interfere.
