We tend to remain at rest with respect to the seat until the driver applies a braking force to stop the motorcar. When the brakes are applied, the car slows down and lower part of body tries to maintain contact with the seat due to friction. But upper part of our body tends to continue to move with the same speed because of its inertia and moves forward.
