Stirrer in stirred tank type bioreactor facilitates
Stirred-tank bioreactor is usually cylindrical in structure. They also have a curved base to ease the mixing of the reaction contents. The stirrer facilitates even distribution and mixing of oxygen throughout the bioreactor. Air can also be bubbled alternatively throughout the reactor to accelerate the reaction.
Temperature in bioreactors is controlled by a water jacket or heating blanket. The pH is controlled by addition of a base and CO2 sparging, typically at 7.0 pH.
