Interferons are the signalling protein molecules which are released after a cell is infected by a virus. These signaling molecules pass the information to uninfected cells so that they can be ready to fight with the invading viruses. These interferons work by inhibiting protein synthesis, inactivation of viral RNA, activation of other immune cells, etc.
