Sulphuric acid has very wide and varied applications such as:
(i) In chemical industries: It is used in the manufacture of hydrochloric acid, nitric acid, phosphoric acid, metal sulphates, ether, pigments, plastics, films, cellophane, dyes, drugs, glue, pigments, disinfectants, perfumes, paper, soaps, detergents, etc.
(ii) In fibre industries: It is used to manufacture rayon fibres, cotton, linen, wool, rubber, etc.
(iii) In metallurgy: It is used for the extraction of copper, purification of gold, electroplating, galvanising, pickling of metals before coating with tin, zinc, enamel, etc.
(iv) In lead storage batteries: It is used as electrolyte medium in the accumulators especially for use in automobiles, etc.
