Solution

The correct option is C W:- Platinum (Pt)
X:- Copper (Cu)
Y:- Silver (Ag)
Z:- Iron (Fe)
W:- Platinum (Pt): It does react with the atmosphere and it does not form any layer over it.

X:- Copper (Cu): It forms a greenish coating of basic copper carbonate,
(CuCO3.Cu(OH)2), when exposed to CO2, O2 and H2O. It is called tarnishing of copper.

Y:- Silver (Ag): When silver is exposed to an atmosphere containing hydrogen sulphide (H2S) gas, it forms a black layer of silver sulphide (Ag2S). It is called tarnishing of silver.

Z:- Iron (Fe): It forms a reddish brown layer of rust, (Fe2O3.nH2O), when it comes in contact with moisture and oxygen. This is called rusting of iron.
