Question

Suppose 2kg of sugar contains 9 * 10 to the power 6 crystals. How many sugar crystals are there in, (i) 5 kg of sugar? (ii) 1.2 kg of sugar?

Given number of crystals in 2 kg sugar = 9 x 106
(A) Number of crystals in 1 kg sugar = 4.5 x 106
Therefore, number of crystals in 5 kg of sugar = 5 x 4.5 x 106
= 22.5 x 106

(B) Number of crystals in 1 kg sugar = 4.5 x 106
Therefore, number of crystals in 1.2 kg of sugar = 1.2 x 4.5 x 106
= 5.4 x 106
