Solution

The correct option is B Paired chromosomes in meiosis.
Meiosis is characterised by pairing of homologous chromosomes, exchange of segments between homologous chromosomes and separation of homologous chromosomes. The pairing of homologous chromosomes occurs during zygotene substage of prophase I which lead to formation of bivalent. The two homologous chromosomes of a bivalent are held together by nucleoprotein core. The whole structure is called synaptinemal or synaptonemal complex.
