The central dogma of molecular biology states that the information flows from DNA to mRNA and then to protein.

Synthesis of mRNA from DNA is called transcription.

The mRNA message is decoded in the cytoplasm and protein is formed. This is called translation.

But in certain viruses, synthesis of DNA from RNA occurs by reverse transcriptase enzyme and this process is called reverse transcription. It is also referred to as central dogma reverse. It was discovered by Temin and Baltimore and hence also called as teminism.
