Take three test-tubes. Fill 3/4th of each with water. Label them A, B and C. Keep a snail in test-tube A, a water plant in test-tube B and in C, keep snail and plant both. Which test-tube would have the highest concentration of CO2?

Solution
Test tube A will have the highest concentration of CO2 because the snail will take in oxygen and gives out CO2 through cellular respiration.
The test tubes B contains a water plant. This plant takes CO2 for photosynthesis and gives out oxygen. Thus, there will be moreconcentration of oxygen in test tube B and less concentration of CO2.
In test tube C, both the water plant and the snail is kept. The plant further utilises the carbon dioxide released by the snail for photosynthesis, and the snail utilizes the oxygen released by the plant for their respiration. So, the increase in carbon dioxide concentration in the test tube will be minimal.
