Taylor purchased a rectangular plot of area 750m2. The length of the plot is 5 m more than its breadth. Find its length.
44.6m & 14.20m
Let x be the breadth of the rectangular plot.
Then its length = x + 5
Area of the rectangle = length × breadth
⇒750=(x+5)x
⇒750=x2+5x
⇒ x2+5x−750=0
⇒ x2+30x−25x−750=0
⇒ x(x+30)−25(x+30)=0
⇒ (x−25)(x+30)=0
⇒ x=25 or x=−30
Since breadth cannot be negative, we get x = 25m
Therefore length = 25 + 5 = 30m
