Question

Ten litres of milk were shared between John and Saurabh. If Saurabh was given 2 litres more than John, how many litres did each get?

Open in App
Solution

Let the quantity of milk that John got be x litres.
Then, Saurabh got (x + 2) litres of milk.
It is given that the total quantity of milk is 10 litres.
∴ x + 2 + x = 10
2x + 2 = 10
Subtracting 2 from both the sides, we obtain:
2x + 2 – 2 = 10 – 2
2x = 8
Dividing both sides by 2, we obtain:
2x2=82x=4
∴ John got 4 litres of milk.
And Saurabh got (x + 2) litres of milk = (4 + 2 ) litres= 6 litres
