Solution

Let the present age of man = y yrsLet the present age of son = x yrsAFTER 10 YEARS : age of man = y+10 yrsage of son = x+10 yrsNow, according to first condition :y + 10 = 2x + 10y + 10 = 2x + 20y = 2x + 10 .....1TEN YEARS AGO :age of man = y-10 yrsage of son = x-10 yrsNow, according to second condition :y - 10 = 4x - 10y - 10 = 4x - 40y = 4x - 30 ....2From 1 and 2, we get2x + 10 = 4x - 30-2x = -40x = 20Now, from 1, we gety = 2×20+10 = 50So, present age of man = 50 yrspresent age of son = 20 yrs
