Let the age of son $= x$ years
$∴$ Age of his father $= x + 27$
$\Rightarrow x + x + 27 = 47$
$\Rightarrow 2 x = 47 - 27 = 20$
$\Rightarrow x = \frac{20}{2} = 10$
$∴$ Age of son $= 10$ years and age of his father $= 10 + 27 = 37$ years.
