Dear student
Agroabacterium tumifaciens is a pathogen that infects several varieties of dicot plants. It integrates its plasmid known as Ti plasmid into the host cell that leads to tumour formation and also directs the tumour cells to produce the chemicals required by the pathogen. It then establishes contact with root cells by recognising the chemical signals and prepares its plasmid ready to be delivered. The T- DNA is then transferred and integrated into the host DNA which later on leads to tumour development. As this whole process of DNA transfer from bacteria into a flowering plant is governed by agrobacterium, it is known as natural genetic engineer.
